HR Consulting Case Study – Novo Nordisk

The Brief


Novo Nordisk engaged True North to implement a change programme across their recruitment function. Headquartered in Denmark, Novo Nordisk are a global healthcare company with 90 years of innovation and leadership in diabetes care. The company also has leading positions within haemophilia care, growth hormone therapy and hormone replacement therapy. Novo Nordisk wanted to create an in-house resourcing function to work along slide their HR team to reduce reliance on third party suppliers and develop their own sustainable talent bank. They needed to increase their brand presence in the market place, and wanted to implement more efficient ways of working.


The Challenge


With a remit of niche job vacancies and heavy reliance on third party agencies, Novo Nordisk were lacking a strategy in terms of sourcing and attraction. Coupled with low awareness of the employer brand in the market, Novo Nordisk had challenge in developing a pipeline of talent for both current requirements and future business growth. Additionally, there was an array of manual, labour intensive process and a lack of MI to measure activity and influence the business.


The Solution


True North implemented and embedded an online recruitment platform to streamline process management, standardise candidate experience and produce highly visible management Information reporting. True North generated significant cost reductions through the introduction of a direct hiring strategy – targeted at 70%, resulting in a 21% cost saving in the first 12 months.


Other interventions included streamlining processes whereby True North managed all 3rd party relationships, consequently reducing the invoicing to one single invoice per month, saving valuable time and resource. Additionally, True North successfully partnered with Novo Nordisk to roll out an EVP plan which helped position them as an employer of choice, helping to enhance the calibre of future candidates interested in working in the company and enabling Novo Nordisk to build their own talent database and become less reliant on agencies. True North developed and grew the internal candidate referral scheme to help improve interest level and success of the ‘refer a friend’ scheme.
