HR Consulting Case Study – Aldermore

HR Information System Technology Review

The Brief

Aldermore is the fastest growing bank in the UK, the pace of growth and commercial success has resulted in an increase in headcount from 300 employees in 2012 growing to 2,000 within 3 years. Consequently Aldermore are going through a transformation programme, making infrastructure changes to support the next part of their journey and systems that were in place for an organisation of 300 are being reviewed and updated to reflect the new organisational structures and business drivers. A key part of this transformation in the HR space is the introduction of a single new HR Information System (HRIS) and True North were approached based on their expertise in this area to support with this project.

The Challenge

Aldermore were currently using numerous different systems for HR & Payroll, all running separately and requiring significant manual intervention. There was low line manager engagement of current system(s) due to inefficiencies and numerous payroll errors. In addition Aldermore had limited management information reporting capability resulting in a lack of ability to pull meaningful data from one single source. Ultimately significant HR manpower is being taken up by manual, reactive administrative tasks rather than strategic proactive activity to drive the people agenda. There was a clear need to implement a single, integrated HRIS platform to address these challenges. Aldermore had already identified a preferred HRIS platform however the board felt that this system was expensive and potential too complex for the actual business requirements. The board therefore wanted an independent review of the proposal as well as some pricing and insight form alternative HRIS providers to establishing if the identified “high end” solution was appropriate for Aldermore and the confidence that due diligence was undertaken prior to sign off.

The Solution

Upon commencing the review, True North analysed in detail all the existing document and research submitted in relation to the proposed new system. Time was spent speaking with all relevant stakeholders to understand the current end to end work flow and operational processes daily / weekly / monthly process activities and functional requirements as well as reviewed the existing HRIS system to see how system is currently used “as is” and get a true understanding of what the business needed.

True North then researched alternative HR technology vendors to offer comparative solutions for Aldermore and scoped out indicative quotes from other suppliers to give Aldermore alternative vendor options to consider.

This insight and data was presented in a formal report summarizing all of the above along with recommendations for next steps for Aldermore. Ultimately to empower Aldermore with the knowledge and insight to make a more informed decision on the right system to choose and the confidence that due diligence had been undertaken.
